Lopez' legal council will later challenge Madison's actions, claiming she violated the attorney-client privilege. It could be assumed that Lops perhaps was persuaded into allowing the video to be taken to press charges, but later had a change of heart, as when Madison informs her she will be filing battery charges on her behalf, Lopez begs her to delete the video. The next morning, Madison takes a short video of the bruising on Lopez' arms, which Lopez claims she assumed was simply a kind gesture of a concerned friend- perhaps to show to a physician? It's unclear. Lopez recounts the events to Madison and stays the night with her and her husband, Mertens- both law school graduates although Madison did not practice during this time. Troubled, Lopez reaches out to her neighbor and friend, Madison. Their 3 year old son is likely to have witnessed the distressful events.
In all seriousness, all that is known (amongst press) to have transpired on the night in question was that an argument erupted between Mirkarimi and Lopez, and at some point Mirkarimi grabbed Lopez' arms, which would leave noticeable bruising the following day. Where is the "unlawful-inprisonizer" to turn, I ask! and where does the charge end? It is widely accepted amongst myself and my dog that Mirkarimi may never experience the boundless joy felt only by a man who has successfully performed a dutch oven upon his unsuspecting spouse.*tears* Breaks my heart, is there even love in such a shattered dynamic? At least if you domestically terrorize your own family there's counseling and support groups. which weirdly sounds like the worst offense of all. So here are the straight facts: Mirkarimi made a plea deal exonerating him charges of domestic violence battery, child endangerment and dissuading a witness in exchange for a guilty plea for a single charge of unlawful imprisonment. I'm very content with my role as "unassociated blogger cracking wise from his apartment" in this scenario, what a mess.

Nobody involved is able to provide media with a full picture of what transpired because of legal implications, and now that the case involves at least 4 practicing lawyers and a potential lawsuit against Mirkarimi and Lopez' neighbors looming, everyone is playing hard defense. I have been plodding through articles concerning this whole catastrophe for several days, but I find myself constantly smacking into logistical barriers. which is lawyer-speak for "none of your buisness" and in a way they're right- but I'll get into that later. So what actually happened on that fateful new years eve? The short answer: "events".
Little brothers everywhere are well advised to oil their forearms every morning to be sure their aren't caught in the fingers of this terrible new domestic plight.
But whether you care or not, local news outlets have followed this tedious case with such fervor that most can't help but feel invested- forget the traffic updates, the only patterns concerning me now are the ones on Eliana Lopez's arms, the first recipient of what can now be safely deemed the "Mirkarimian-burn". If you live in or around SF you've probably had little choice as to whether or not the events surrounding today's suspension of Sheriff Mirkarimi by mayor Lee have been worth following.
